- PRESS RELEASE -

Recycle4Schools National School Challenge

Two new children’s characters, RecycleMicheal and GreenDoreen have been created by the promoters of Recycle4Schools, to assist schools to raise funds for equipment AND activate kids into protecting the environment.
31,000 junior and ‘middle’ schools have been written to ask if they will take part in the prize driven challenge, which is sponsored by acclaimed charity fundraisers Donate As You Spend.

The idea for the Challenge, which uses Donate As You Spend’s “D.A.Y.S. Recycle Appeal” services to derive donations from the recycling of Inkjet Cartridges and Mobile Phones, is to activate children to get involved and actually see how they can easily help reduce waste and live as responsible citizens. The challenge cup will go to the school with the largest contribution to the challenge and recycling by the end of 2004, as well as many prizes throughout the year for individuals and teams.

To make the challenge even more fun, and educational, for each item recycled the school and team are given so many ‘virtual’ bricks, which are being visually displayed on the challenge website www.schoolschallenge.co.uk  to build the ‘Virtual Wall of Great Britain’, which is hoped will stretch from John O'Groats to Lands End on a scale map of the country, further demonstrating to everybody what great things can be achieved by joining in and working together to solve problems.

For each mobile phone recycled the School (or its designated charity) receives £2 and 60pence for every Inkjet Cartridge. Also, for each laser toner cartridge recycled there is also a donation which varies according to type.

Individual recyclers supporting the schools within the local area, such as local businesses, scout associations or families can also choose to receive CharityPoints as a reward, or donate them to the cause. CharityPoints is a loyalty and reward service for charity supporters operated in association with Donate As You Spend.
